Re: Natural Finish??????
Gary-----
It's virtually impossible to re-create a "natural" finish AS SEEN IN ORIGINAL PRODUCTION in most instances. There are a wide variety of "natural" finishes and there is just no way to exactly re-create any of them.
There are ways that a "natural" finish can be PRESERVED, usually by very temporary means, but RE-CREATING the "natural" finish is another matter, entirely. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Natural Finish??????
Gary,
During the 63-64 model year run, the "chassis blackout" operation just prior to body drop would have coated the drive and half shafts and many other components that were installed unpainted. This process was carry over from the 53-62 era and continued with the same amount of coverage until the introduction of the disc brake 65 model. This would eliminate the need to try to duplicate the look of a new/NOS shaft.
I'm pretty sure that most judges are aware of this coating and there would be no point loss at NCRS or Bloomington Gold events, even though the judging guide calls for unpainted components.- Top

Re: Natural Finish??????
In a post just a few days ago, Joe Lucia wrote about the paint process for the steering linkage/tie rod assembly. Shouldn't be too far down the list. Good luck with your project.- Top
