Re: Just remember, loud pipes save lives.
A old friend of mine bought a 1967 435 Hp Coupe new. He ordered the optional headers. These were the Kustom Headers. He said that the headers ( if I remember the story correctly were delivered with the car --not installed. The story I heard was that the dealer installed the headers, I always had the impression that the his headers were listed on the window sticker option price list.) He drove the car and claims that he received several citations for noise/illegal exhaust during the first few years of ownership. However, he contested all the tickets with either the original window sticker or some sort of documentation that the car was bought from a dealer in the header/sidepipe configuration. Anyhow, as years went by, no longer gets stopped for driving with the headers. (The Kustom Headers look like Hooker Headers.)
One thing I would appreciate comments from NCRS people is that ...I think his rear exhaust valance panel did not have exhaust cutouts (holes). Question: If someone ordered a 1967 Corvette 435 HP engine and bought the header/sidepipe option, would the car be delivered with the rear valance panel exhaust holes closed out.
