Re: Black Phosphate hardware for hood latch C3

I have used a product from "shootersolutions.com" They offer a manganese phosphate which is very dark gray and a zinc phosphate is a lighter gray. The solutions must be heated in a stainless or plastic container. I use a microware to heat the solution. Put a lid on the container to hold down the fumes. Many of the repo fasteners I have purchased are incorrect in some way. I have found it simpler to reuse what I have even though it is time consuming.

Re: Black phosphate "sparkle" in a home kit

      Hi Joe
How's the ZR1 coming along. Maybe one day I'll come and visit your collection of parts.....um I mean your ZL1.
Regarding the Zinc Phosphate available to the public. I tried contacting many manufactures, suppliers and even the platers if they would sell some of it. The answer from all of them is a Flat NO! If you are a licenced manufacture of some sorts then you will have to produce your licence number that meets all the EPA or what ever licences that meet their critera as imposed by the government. Then you can order it and not a gallon or 2 but in bulk drums. You mentioned the price of plating a few items and its like a couple of hundred dollars. Well its true. They platers make good money on Zincing your part. I plated my hood latch and it took about 15 mins and about 1.00 or 1.50 cost in the zinc phosphate. The plater would charge a flat rate of 40.00 to 50.00 to do an item. If you have buckets of bolts then the cost is by weight. Like I mentioned before it took me a long time to get this stuff and when I sell out I ain't doing it again as its too much hassle and time consuming. I'd rather try and restore my 68 as its been 7 years now. When I finish my car maybe you can take mine for a spin and I'll take yours for a little spin....not spinning the tires of course.
