Hello all...I am trying to figure out how to reinstall the clutch return spring bracket on the firewall of my '67. The AIM seems to indicate that it attaches by one of the bolts securing the steering column bracket, but it isn't real clear. Can anyone clarify this for me? Does the spring bracket fit on top of the column bracket, and if so, what is the orientation of the spring bracket? Thanks very much in advance!
Hi Bill, thanks for the prompt reply. I am asking specifically about the "clip" that is mounted on the firewall. It is a small L-shaped bracket with a larger hole (about 1/4") in the flat part and a small hole in the "L". I just need to figure out how that clip/bracket mounts to the firewall. Sorry if I wasn't clear in my previous explanation. Pictures would definitely be appreciated. Thanks again. Brandon
thanks Pete. I was looking at UPC 7 (C2) but it doesnt seem clear. The drawing looks different than the bracket I have, and wondering if the "toe" of the L goes toward or away from the firewall. thanks again, Brandon
Thanks for reposting picture. The bracket itself looks very different than my old one and the one that I just got from Long Island Corvette. Is it possible that they may have changed somewhere along the line, or do I have the wrong parts?
I would like to post a picture of the "original" bracket I have, but not sure how to do that.
Brandon - The one on my car, S/N 1476, looks the same as William's with the exception of the installation. The retainer is installed so the hook portion is oriented horizontally towards the driver's fender. UPC 7, Sheet C2 in the AIM I have shows a part number change authorization on 9-9-66 from 3832859 to 3913803. The one on my car must be the 3832859 part because it's identical to the one I have for a 66. Pete
I believe your info is accurate. If I remember correctly, the rounded hook style that was used from 63 to early 67 was replaced with a wide flat piece with only one 90* bend at it's center. I think it was attached the same as the earlier design. The pic in the AIM may differ slightly as I think the same 63-66 drawing was used. Does anyone happen to have a pic of the 2nd design 67 hook installed?
Thanks for everyone's help on this, and sorry I couldn't get the picture posted. It all makes sense now. After looking again at the original part, the impression of a washer is evident, giving away its orientation. Now, if I can figure out how to post a picture, I will put one up after I have cleaned up, repainted, and installed the part. As always, your guidance has been immensely helpful!
