I need to replace my non-original carburetor on my 390 hp car but don't have the original K19 system on the car. THe question is, if I can find the correct carb, can I use it without the rest of the AIR system or until I get the rest of the components in place? From what I understand (I haven't seen one yet)it connects to the AIR system, but would I have to cap that line somehow?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The AIR carb has ported vacuum advance. I recommend you convert to full time vacuum advance by using a full time vacuum source, like the choke vacuum break, for the vacuum advance signal.
You can probably also convert to full time my modifying the carb internally.
A Holley 3606 List, GM # 3892341 was used on ’66 BB’s with K19. Small block’s used the 3605 List. The base plates are different than the non-smog carburetors because of the LH mixture control valve, vacuum ports, and rear PCV hose connections. Both carburetors use ported vacuum, which should be avoided, by using the full vacuum signal from the mixture control valve hose connection to the distributor vacuum advance.
Capping the original ported vacuum connection, the large MCV connection, and routing the PCV hose differently will be necessary. I bought a service replacement carburetor to use on my 327/300, then found a dated one and had it restored. Went this way to keep the original configuration and have a spare carburetor too. I can send pictures.
I would really appreciate the pictures if you could send them. Since I am unfamiliar with this unit, I need as much info as possible to be able to see what it is I need to do. Let me know on the pictures. E-mail address is Mark.Pugmire@HCAHealthcare.com. Also, any advice on locating a correct carburetor would be great.
Thanks much!
Mark
