    Rear leaf springs

Where is the best place to purchase a new 9-leaf spring for a 66 BB?
What is a ball park price?

    Re: Rear leaf springs

    Bob,

Try Eaton. Don't know about 9-leaf springs (or the cost) but their 7-leaf spring for my '67 looks very close to the original and performs correctly.

Eaton sells a nice replacement. You have to ask them to provide the leafs and liners seperated (not assembled) since you do want to paint them in the gray (zinc) color. That saves you removing the melted liners from the leaves (a lot of hard work I can ensure you). The package is slightly thicker than the original setup (1/2") so you might need longer bolts (I didn't but my bolts were not original).

      greetings,
      Rob.

        All-----

I agree, too. I believe that the current Eaton replacements are the best thing available today. They are not perfect but they are the best thing available. This includes both the 7 and 9 leaf springs.

Someday, when "Hugo comes around" we might have a better and more correct spring available.

            Bob,

As others have suggested, Eaton is the best best for a new replacement. Here is their contact info:

The leading manufacturer of leaf and coil springs for the street rod and restoration automotive industries

Also, as Rob stated, order it disassembled and then get the correct paint and a set of liners from Quanta http://www.quantaproducts.com/privacy.asp to finish it up. This is if you are planning on having it judged.

I just put a 9 leaf Eaton on my SB 66 a month or so ago and I'm very pleased with it. The cost was about $200 including shipping etc. but I've heard they just raised their prices.

            Good luck,
            Rob

              Re: Thanks

Please also note it will have a slightly higher wheel height (app. 2 inches, 5 cm.) Longer bolts (on the left and right) can undo this.

              greetings,
              Rob.

                Rob,
How mutch longer on the bolts will take out 2" ride hight?
If you can remember I replaced my spring with an Eaton spring about 2 months ago and mine is riding about 1 1/2" to high. Orther wise the spring is great.
Just put a full tank of gas in it and spair tire I hope it will settel in a little more.

                  Rob,

I guess 2 inch longer bolts would do the trick for 2"lower ride. the angle of the bolts is minimal so it works out nearly 1 on 1.

PS The spare tire (and tank with gas) do make a difference, but not much.

                  greetings,
                  Rob.

See also attached picture for the new ride hide using the standard bolts.
