    C1 - 1958-60 Top Windshield Frame Assembly

When pre-assembling the 58-60 windshield frame, what is the proper way to slip the top windshield U-shaped channel inside the semi-circular SS moulding, in order to have the U-shaped channel properly positioned so that both legs of the channel are on the inside of the SS piece? I hope I'm being clear! Those of you who have done this will understand what I'm talking about.

I'm having a hard time getting both legs of the U-channel to align properly. Only one leg gets aligned. The other leg aligns on the outside of the SS piece. It is hard to get the inside screw bosses that are welded ontp the channel(where the SS piece screws onto) to make way to align it properly. When I did this once before I ended up with the SS piece severely dented. Do I have to insert the U-channel into the SS piece from one end? This will be difficult due to the bends in the sub-assembly on both ends.

If no one understands what I'm talking about, maybe I can get a sketch made up and display it.

It snaps in and only one side is truly all the way inside. I don't remember whether it's the front or rear, but it will only go one way.

I have done 4 or 5 of those frames..it's been almost a year since the last one.
I remember getting the gasket around the glass with the wide bottom "flap" spaced out equally so it matches in both lower corners..then fitting the left and right "wings" until they were firmly seated. Then I took a grease pencil and marked the hole positions onto the gasket. Then (If I remember right) I fitted the bottom U channel to line up with the grease pencil marks for the screw holes..found my center using the grease pencil marks. Then I think I fitted the "wings" back into place. I recall trying to fit the top piece as 1 unit and with just the u channel...both methods..problem was that when I tried just the u channel I had a hard time getting the ss cap to get over the top without "widening it out" so much that it didn't fit tight anymore. After that experience I started fitting the top piece as 1 unit. I used a very soft silicone headed mallet to get it beat down onto the gasket hard enuff without causing dents and dings from the ss hitting the u channel. Hope this helps..
