which direction does the coolant flow through the radiator core ('64)? in the top and out the bottom?

Flows through the engine, out the top hose, into the core and back into the engine through the water pump.

And coolant flows out of the intake manifold through the 5/8" hose to the lower heater core nipple, through the heater core, then out through the upper nipple and 3/4" hose to the fitting on the water pump.

Is this as true for the '58 configuration? I'm ready to hook up my heater hoses after 24 years. Thanks for the help!

Not quite - 58's used 5/8" hoses for both the supply and return hoses; the 3/4" hose for the return line didn't start until 1959.
