    Re: 4 post lifts

Purchased my lifts from Auto Lifter 11 and 10 years ago. They are not used every day, no problems encountered. I put mine together myself both times. If you pick it up yourself, recommend a trailor for pick up and unpack it from the trailor. Mine came in a package and was loaded onto the delivery truck with a fork lift. The packaged unit is very heavy. Turned my two car garage into a four car garage with the lifts.

Gary,,,, do an archives search,.... this was recently discussed at length, with some great considerations.

One of which is the cheaper units rely on welded on stop points,,,, that causes you to rely solely on someone's welding on those lift support stops that holds the car above your head. Secondly most of the units use and open bended three side post with nylong guides. These are welded at the base and through bolted at the top to keep from spreading. The stronger, and yes, more expensive units use a 4 sided forged box tube with stamped holes for each stop support. Same kind of increased quality on the ramps.

As we know,,, there is no free lunch.... its a balance of the ck book and safety when it comes to working under a 3,000lb load of iron... and a little fiberglass.

I'm looking at a lift from Seekonk, MA (wharehoused in Pawtucket, RI) a 9000# model PP4HD9 from Americasprideonline.com It comes with all the casters, jack stand and drip trays for $2500 I pick it up. I tried looking through the archives and it wasn't an easy time. In any case, it may be worth a look, I'm almost sold on it. Just my $0.02

Sounds like someone bought into the B.S. hype by a certain manufacturer - "Boy, I sure hope that welder knew what he was doing".Using that dumb azz logic, we should be worried about every car we drive. I bought a Superior lift 8 years ago and it has worked flawlessly.

              Gemini supported NCRS at Convention

Gemini Auto Lifts http://www.geminilift.com supported the NCRS Convention in August and none of the others would. They are made in the USA and very well constructed. Two of the NCRS members from the North Eastern area sell these lifts. If you would like their names send me an e-mail. JMTCW, Gary....

It has been brought to my attention that I may have offended someone with the remark "dumb azz". It was directed at the manufacturers statements, not the person that was posting here. Sorry if my intent wasn't clear in my original post. Jim

                        Agree.

They supported (no pun intended) the Regional at Cincy last year, and I was very, VERY impressed with their 4 post lifts. They are the best I've seen so far.

                            Re: Try

Rotary is clearly the "gold standard" in the lift business; I bought about twenty of their 2-post lifts when we built the Viper plant in 1995, and all have been trouble-free (and safe) since then, in daily use. They even custom-made ultra-low lift pads for the arms to get under the Viper sidepipes at no extra cost, and the Rotary tech guys came in and trained our millwrights in every aspect of their installation and preventive maintenance. Class outfit that knows what they're doing and supports their products; they're not the least expensive, but real quality, reliability and safety never is.

Maybe a stuid question but can someone explain how the 2-post lifts stay balanced when lifting a car? I have a 4 post now and like the idea of having the wheels free but I'm not clear how the 2 posters work? Are they bolted into the cement or free standing like the 4 posts? I appreciate the explanation.
