Roy I hope you change your mind and stay a member posting on this board. I like seeing your posted pictures, learning about all the options and printed information once available, and about your experiences going to an event with your granddaughters. Your granddaughters will always remember going to the events and sleeping in the trailor.

It's not the cars, it's the people you meet

at the events and on the board. I think someone said that above.

Roy, I met you at my first NCRS event and you were the first one to set me down and get me into the NCRS activity. I have appreciated that.

At events and on this board, is like an engineers convention where we argue the finer points. To me it's a real learning and enjoyable experience.

So what, if nobody can see any broach marks on my engine pad, I know it is the original engine. And I'm not afraid to drive it, like the trailer queen owner next to me.

Missed you at the Tahoe event. Saw you for a moment but was into my first judging experience and couldn't break away.

Roy, look at my NCRS membership number...it's #41386. That tells you that I joined in the last 3 years when I became the proud owner of a 59 Roman Red/White and a 62 triple black Vette. I'm a car guy thru and thru. My wife will tell you that I would sleep in the cars if she would allow. I am PASSIONATE about cars, especially Vettes. I'm one of the guys that reads this forum everyday so that I can learn as much as I can about these time capsules. With your input and the knowledge of many others, I have successfully restored both cars back to exceptional "DRIVERS" that I love to take out and show off to the community. The "cool car" and "sweet ride" comments are all the reward I need for the hard work and sweat that I've poured into the cars. Admit it, you know the feeling.

For those of us who are still on the learning curve with these older cars, I hope you will continue to be active in this forum. Who cares what these cars are worth as long as we enjoy them!! The NCRS is an exceptional organization that other car communities wish they had. Reconsider, please. Thanks for your knowledge.

Roy, I agree with your observations but I respect that others feel different and have other views. Your member number says a lot and I respect that. You have a definite right to your opinion. I for one will drive my car when it is done. The most valuble things can't be put in your wallet or bank. Instead, I believe they are experienced. To appreciate the real value of my car, I must drive it! And, I will drive it. Best to you always, Terry

I was quiting when we allowed 63-67 to join!

Hi Roy, hang in there. I was quite upset in the late 70's when the 63 -67 corvettes were allowed to be part of the NCRS structure. I reconsidered and 30 years later it's a great club, whith a lot of different years, and a lot of GREAT FRIENDS!!!!

Re: I was quiting when we allowed 63-67 to join!

Bill..I voted no back then..as well..and was totally wrong. I also remember appraoching Sam Folz and John Amgwert at Bloomington and getting the cold shoulder.

                But that was the exception.

The vast majority of NCRS members are terrific.

If Roy needs any reassurance that NCRS still has interest in C1 cars..My old racecar is a good example.

I was invited to bring the car and display it at the Florida regional this past January. Everyone there was great..and both me and my old car were treated with respect.

I am sure Roy will have withdrawals..and return stronger than ever!

About Midnight last Saturday..there was a loud roar outside my hotel in Effingham. It was Mike Yagers son..driving the 1964 Worlds fair Corvette around town!

                  It's the drivers out there

I meet more Corvette drivers than I do NCRS members. I was and am a driver first and a member second. I enjoy both aspects of the hobby leaning more to driving and the guys involved. Roy as has been said above I enjoy your posts and meeting you at Berkley, ladies choice and all. And my grammer and spelling suck too!

                    I Agree With Chuck.....

Roy, I think your making a big deal out of nothing. There's plenty of room for everyone here. You make your car your way, I'll make mine my way and we'll both be happy. No one said you had to agree with the broach marks and over spray and no one said you had to have it on your car to be included in discussions here. However, it is, and always has been, the direction of NCRS to learn about these "factory things" and duplicate them if possible. The word "Restore" in the name of the organization indicates it has been the primary direction from day one. It's not something new, as you claim. If the level of knowledge has increased over the years, that's a good thing, but that doesn't mean you can't be included if your exhaust manifolds are something other than dead on factory correct with the black remains of orange engine paint.

I don't trailer my cars to events and haven't since the early 80's but I don't try to discourage others from doing it. If that's "their thing", I'm all for it.

I drive my 66 and have been doing so for the last 23 years. We drove that 425 HP car all the way from Illinois to the Hoover dam for the NCRS road tour to Copper mtn. in 1984, a 4500 mile round trip. No one told me we couldn't be included because the car wasn't exactly top flight.

Everyone has their own idea of what a Corvette should be today. Just because your "ideal Corvette" isn't exactly the same as some others, that's no reason to feel that you are not included. A lot of people think I should restore my 66 and show it but I'm STILL having too much fun driving it for that. I just don't try to convince others that my way is the only way.

Re: Wish you all well and good by

Roy, I am a 17 year proud owner of a heavily modified 54. I am now in the process of restoring her to original, or as near to original as is practical. I have been using the forum as a tool to that end, and have been at the receiving end of some great advice from you and others. I hate to see someone as knowledgable and kind as you leave our forum.

When my 54 is finished sometime in the spring, I will drive the h*** out of it, and may even have it judged, if I feel like it. The reason I'm posting this is to let you know that there are a lot of us out there that really enjoy our cars and don't care about the values or the opinions of "judges". Please stay with it, Roy. I enjoy your pix and posts!

                        Roy,

Just wanted to thank you again for the tip you gave me that finally solved the stalling issue on my 1964 coupe after many months of torment and frustration. I thought about you today while I DROVE my 'vette to work and punched it without worrying about it stalling anymore.

Please stay on the forum. Guys like me who work on their own cars and own them for the love of driving them need your sage knowledge and advice. Whatever you decide to do, I just want you to know that you made a big difference for me and I appreciate you for it.

Roy-- If you leave you are doing a disservice to those of us who rely upon your expertise and advice. I have recieved many tips from you on my 55 and would not know who else to turn to.

I know that you are ticked off with NCRS but just use the board to pass on your vast knowledge of the C1's.

I enjoy your posts on the 55's even though I do not acknowledge all of them.

I am an accountant and desparately need your advice and helpfull tips. We are not all experts.
                            Hang in there

Roy, I agree with everything you say. I've been a NCRS member for many years and have seen alot of changes in the organization. Unfortunately, big dollars have changed not only the NCRS but the Corvette hobby entirely. I became a member of the CTCI (Classic Thunderbird Club International) about 5 years ago. It is comprised of mostly older folks (me included) that are all about restoring & driving 55-57 T-Birds. It reminds me of what the NCRS was 25+ years ago. I'll probably keep my "60" forever but, I have the same sour taste as you do about the Corvette hobby. I'll still cruise this forum but, as a whole, my interest have changed toward a more friendly, closer knit group of people that are more interested in the car vs. the dollar. I'm sure we'll all miss your contributions. Good luck in your future endeavors. Jim

                                Verle,
You articulated what I just experienced at the NCRS Regional in Boston.
I attended Friday and Saturday and felt like such an outsider despite the fact that I have been a member of NCRS for well over 10 years. I have spent many hours restoring my 68 to NCRS (sometimes elusive) specifications and I drive it and will never sell it, yet it will never be worthy enough to stand along side the million dollar trailer queens.
I do however have a great deal of respect and appreciation for the many on this board who have provided wisdom and guidance to me over the years as I worked to restore my 68 (which I purchased in 1972) back to its original state. After attending the regional, I reaffirmed my decision never to suffer the humiliation of having my car judged. I left my Corvette at home but some of the comments I heard made by credentialed members about cars at the event were very discouraging and would have been upsetting if they had been directed at my labor of 10 years. It says a great deal when long time members like Roy become disillusioned. I can only hope that things will change for the positive.
