Re: 98.8 NCRS score - 64 with sidepipes?

When I was looking for my coupe, I looked at this car since it's local. First I'd like to say that it was not being offered by a dealer when it was last on Ebay. It is owned by two brothers who seemed to be very nice people. I didn't look real long since the body work was way below my expectations. As I recall not much matched on the car. I don't know how it got the 98.8. These guys are the ones who restored it. They found the car in Brighton, MI, and if I recall the story correctly, it was painted white or silver. I believe they realized it was a black/silver car after they bought it. One of the brothers painted it as he works at a Detroit area car dealer in the body shop. The worst part that sticks out in my mind is the gooped-on undercoating.

        Re: What you can't tell

I'm with Jack a 90 point raw score with 900 miles driven can make the car a 99%. Most all judged Corvettes end up with different tires and rims after judging and this car may have lost lots of parts if it was judged ten years ago and went through a few owners. I have a set of 5 spares, Firestone 500's that are new condition but junk. They would all blow out in 50 miles at 70mph but they have got me five Duntovs. Lyle

                Marketing Hype and/or Smoking mirrors

I found this thread VERY interesting and personal. I found out about this same car when my cousin emailed me about it after visiting a friend, one of the two brothers that he grew up with in Detroit that own the car. I saw the car first hand at the Corvette meet/show at the GM Tech Center in Warren,MI this Summer. At the time, if I remember right, they were asking around 49K. On a personal note, since I'm the orignal owner of a nearly identical car, less side exhaust, Hurst shifter and etc.etc.,I thought that it would be interesting to see a so-called restored 64 Black coupe with Silver interior with a 365HP/4 speed. My immediate reaction, with regards to the Silver interior, was disappointing. They[ various venders] don't/can't replicate the brilliance of the original Silver vinyl interior.
Now here's where it gets interesting. It was I who provided the article that appears in the Ebay ad to the brothers as a courtesy gesture. The article as it appears reads: Second Year Sting Ray-This rare 1964 Corvette is a real showstopper-text by Richard F. Newton. The article has NOTHING to do with the car offered on Ebay!!!-Someone has taken the liberty to insinuate?? that the article is about this Ebay car. The article appeared in March of 1998.
