    Need my clock cleaned.

Hmmm now before you all get your "smart butt" shots in let me clarify...

I have the clock cover and face off on my 69(took it apart to replace the face) so I was wondering if I should spray it with something light like WD-40 to lube and clean it. I also have some NU-TROL control cleaner from MG Chemicals that is used for cleaning and lubing switches. The clock worked fine for the most part and the contacts look really nice so it should have a lot of life left in it.

    Any ideas?

My clock on my 68 had sort of froze sometime in its life. I carefully sprayed the gears with wd-40 and then blew it out with compressed air so that only a fine film was left of the wd-40. It took off running after that. Sort of neat to see that solenoid start to function again. I sort of cleaned the points on it also. They don't keep time anyway so it is sort of hard to hurt them. Thanks Terry I'll try the WD-40 trick just as you say. Oh by the way I think these clocks keep perfect time...they just use their own 23.75 hr per day system!

Yup. They do do there own thing. When it is hot, they go fast. When it is cold, they go slow. Take care, Terry

I was told that the clock movement is suspended on rubber bushings and that WD40 is hostile to those bushings. I have no personal direct experience with automotive clocks -- I'm just repeating what I was told by the folks in Wisconsin who service them.

I have found that TV tuner cleaner worked great in the past. It had a contact cleaner and a light lubricant in it for old fashion mechanical TV tuners and did well with the clocks I fixed.

However, with electronic tuners for the last 25 years of more, I don't even know if such a cleaner still exists or not.

                        Mike,

This is what I used to clean my radio switches. Do you think this would be better than WD-40?

                            I've heard that too.

That WD40 eats the rubber bushings and is bad for the clock. I think it is on the 67 Restorer CD.

They use something else, maybe a light oil like the jewelers do. I tried a little light oil that comes in a hypodermic syringe on my 67 clock, and now it runs too fast.
