Sat Feb 13th 1965 -- bad day at trim tag station

This tag is on a car sold on eBay last week; convertible VIN 9872. VIN tag was attached with plain rivets, which I guess is OK, as Noland says mixed cases of plain and rosette rivets from about 7800 to 10000. But where's the usual space between the year (65) and body style (467) ? And why no "S" prefix before the body total of 3170 ?

Feb 13th (G13) agrees with convertible body total of 3170 St.Louis units (double this figure for approximate total of A plus S bodies, which is roughly 2/3 of total production, or the usual convertible-to-coupe ratio).

Note the droplets of zinc chromate primer on the bottom of the cross-bar.

The G13 date seems reasonable for a 9872 serial numbered car, but the body number seems high to me. Remember there are X number A convertibles and X number coupes in both AOS and St. Louis. According to Nolands survey serial number 9213 had AOS body number A2021.

      Another Bad Day

This is another bad day at the Trim Tag station. This my trim tag and the paint code is a typo, should be 983 for my Goodwood green car.

Wayne, I believe the VIN stated on eBay was 9782. FWIW. Dave

          I got to looking

at my trim tag I'll get a better picture in the morning. Now looking at the trim tags posted in the last few days and looking at some others I noticed my STD is followed by a period. Don't see it on the few examples of STD posted in the last few days.

            Kevin,

Not to worry. Al Grenning, in his great teaching sessions and in his Trim Tag Authentication book,(page 13) says the "Period" was a common variation during mid year production.

I wasn't worried just don't remember anybody talking about the period before.
