James did you ever get a chance to look at your bottom pullies?

        Mike,

The pulley is still on the car, I can try to get you an accurate measurement while it's on the car. I can not see the GM part number for the crankshaft pulley because the power steering pulley is installed in front of itand the crankshaft bolt holds both pulleys in place. I had not planned to take the pulleys off the car, I have the water pump pulley off to replace the water pump. I'll try to get you some measurements this weekend.

Thanks James! I wouldn`t pull it off either if it is still in the car. Between you and Joe I have got a lot of valuable info already. I appreciate it. Mike

This is a bit of a head scratcher that caused my friend Paul and I to go deep intot he AIM and every other resource we could find - the goal being correctness, and proper pulley line up.

his informative post here, born of real life experience:

Jack, My car is a Feb. 65 with C60 and N40. I am still researching what might have been the original set up. I am accumulating a very nice pulley collection in the process. I think we have the water pump with help from several others nailed down but was trying to confirm the bottom two pullies. I think where I have problems is the two groove pulley. The 533 doesn`t appear to be right to line up correctly even though the 232 add on does line up with the PS Pump with a 509 pulley. Still working on this. Thanks!

                Mike,

I went ahead and removed the crankshaft and p/s pulleys last night to check the GM part numbers for you. I don't know if I mentioned it or not but this car is a late build car, VIN 22095 built on July 13, 1965.

The number for 2-groove crankshaft pulley is 3850838, it is approximately 1-1/4 inch in width, is 7-1/4 inches in diameter, belt groove widths are approximately 7/16 of an inch wide at the top edges and 1/2 inch deep.

The power steering pulley is a single groove pulley nested against, on top of, or in front of the 2-groove crankshaft pulley as described in other posts. I found no GM part numbers on the pulley, but the letter "S" stamp in two locations, one on the back hub surface and the other on the side of the hub approximately 180 degrees apart from each other. This pulley is approximately 2-7/32 inches deep measured from the bottom or back of the pulley to the top or outer most edge of the belt groove. It measures approximately 6-11/16 inches in diameter at the outer belt groove. The belt groove measures approximately 7/16 of an inch wide and is 1/2 inch deep.

Please send me your email address and I'll send you pictures of all three pulleys for an L79 a/c and p/s equipped car if this will help you in identify the correct pulleys.

Hope this helps you out, let me know if I can help you out anymore, I'd be glad to get you any info that you need to help you get your car put together.

                Best Regards,

                James West

                  Mike,

One more dimension that I forgot to post in my previous post is the total thickness of the two pulleys when that are put together or nested against each other. That dimension is 2-1/4 inches from the bottom or back of the 2-groove crankshaft pulley to the top or outer most edge of the power steering pulley.

                  Regards,

                  James West
