posted this further down in another Lt1 post: CEA129749,(jan 12 1997?) with a block date of L29 0.(12/29/70). Can that be right?

I'm not really sure. I have not seen the block in person. I found the fellow with the block on the Corvette Forum, and he sent me pictures.

                It's NOT a date code

The CE blocks are sequentially numbered, it's NOT a date code. This block would get no more points from the NCRS than a correctly dated truck or car block. In fact, its date would only be acceptable for a 1971 model car. Sure a lot of $$$ to spend when you can pick up a generic Flint block for a fraction of that at a junkyard or machine shop.

If the engine was bought over the parts department (CHEVY dealer) it don't have a pad number but blank, I bought many LT1's in 1970 that way.

Re: It's NOT a date code

Mark, I agree that the date code would be for a 1971 car; however, assuming this truly is an NOS LT-1 engine, the special high performance internal parts are probably worth the price. I understand that NCRS does not drop the oil pan for judging. But if you are proporting to have an LT-1 car, the internal parts of the engine should be LT-1 parts in my opinion. It might be worth buying the block, taking it apart, selling the block to for a 1971 car, and putting the internal components in a corrected dated block.

                          NOS or Rebuilt???

Can anyone tell if this is truly an NOS engine or just a rebuilt engine from the pictures?

Although when I spoke to the owner he said it had a LT1 cam. Didn't get a pic of the front to confirm that.

This would also be a correct short block for a 70 L-46, less the cam if thats what's in it. That's my interest in speaking to the seller. In theory, if I blew the engine in my june 70 L-46 in dec 70, this could have ended up in my car as a replacement.
