    C3 1975 Storage Door Trim

I recently posted this question and got some good advice but never got the answer to my question. I'm posting it again because there must be someone out there that knows the answer.

What fasteners were used to attach the trim that the holds the carpet to the three storage (jack, glove, battery) doors? There are two attachment points on each of the four sides of the trim. They appeared to be plastic when I drilled them out to remove the trim. However, the material I drilled out could have been epoxy or some type of glue. The material was dark (almost black) and not painted the same color (oxblood) as the trim.

Does anyone know for certain what material was used? If so, do you know if it is available today?

Thanks again in advance and I hope I'm not beating a dead horse.

    Eric,
I don't know the answer, but have you looked in the 1975 AIM? I don't have one, so I can't check, but for many cases where a glue, fluid, or sealant is used there is a note that gives one a reference number and the quantity used. The key to that reference is in the front section of the AIM where the GM part number and a name is called out. Sometimes that part number can be changed into a chemical that can be identified.

Eric, They look to be Black plastic pins, with the ends (heads) heated, to mold the ends flush with the surface of the trim. If you could find or make some plastic pin's close to the correct size, I would insert them in the holes and heat them with a soldering iron or a regular household clothes iron, to get them flush to the surface. Hope this is of some help. Dave

I would say the AIM will be of no help as the doors were assembled by the manufacturer. I think that the complete units made today use wood as all pre Jan. 1973 Corvettes used. I have removed and replaced many carpet and trim from doors and that black tit goes through to the body of the door like it was liquid when it was put in.

If the doors arrived at St. Louis as assemblies, than the AIM won't work. I was thinking something like hot melt glue would work, but it sounds like they were plastic pins. Perhaps something could be fabricated from plastic (perhaps from model kits) to make an "appears like" piece.
