    '67 Distributor Bands - NCRS Clarification/Help

I recently ordered from Corvette Central a properly numbered distributor band for my 1967 327/300HP with automatic transmission. They sent me a band numbered 1111194 with the correct dates. However, the 1967 NCRS Technical Information Manual and Guide lists a band number of 1111117 for base 327/300HP with standard ignition and powerglide (page 81 - Table Small Block Distributors). OK, so I should have band number 1111117, right. Well, I called Corvette Central to get the correct band sent and their technical support stated that the NCRS Spec Guide doesn't specify any difference between a manual and automatic transmission, stating that band 1111194 fits both, with the 1111117 reserved for the K19 air injection option.

So, my question is which is correct for my car 1111194 or 1111117. Corvette Central said they would correct it for me, if that was the case, but they wanted me to first find out if 1111117 is actually for the 1967 automatic 327/300HP.

Someone, give us a hand here. Thanks.

It's easy to understand the confusion, as the factory distributor listing in the '67 Chassis Service Manual (page 14-15, Specifications Section) doesn't list the non-A.I.R. 300hp Powerglide at all - only 300hp Powerglide with A.I.R. as using the 117 distributor. The 194 distributor is shown for 300hp manual transmission, "including" A.I.R. (may be a semantic issue here between "with" A.I.R. and "including" A.I.R. as two separate applications). The Pocket Spec Guide pretty much follows these usages, but the JG does not; the JG ignores A.I.R., and calls for the 194 on a 300hp manual and the 117 on a 300hp Powerglide.

At any rate, the JG calls for the 117 for a 300hp Powerglide, and that's what the judges will expect to see.

Crap should have included 327 300hp PG A.I.R.

          Re: '67 Distributor Bands - NCRS Clarification/Hel

          Hi Kirk:

I researched this same problem a couple years ago, because my 67 327/300 Powerglide non-A.I.R. car has an original-looking 1111194 tag on the distributor and the JG calls for a 1111117.

The discussion can probably be found in the archives by searching on my name and the word "distributor" or some other limiting factor.

Anyway, the consensus was that the JG is wrong. The 1111117 was ONLY used on Powerglide cars with A.I.R. The correct distributor for your non-A.I.R. car is the 1111194.

Thanks again Joe. That seems to be what the fellow at Corvette Central was trying to tell me, but even he wanted clarification. I will leave the 1111194 on. In the meantime Corvette Central agreed to send me the 1111117 with a correct date, so I guess I'll have both!

              Joe,

The 117 is listed only as part of the K19 package in the 67 AIM. If you look in the 67 Service Manual, the only oddball initial timing spec (of 4 A) is for the 300HP AIR car with Auto Trans. I'll bet the 117 is the reverse dimple distributor in order to get to 4 A.

Looks like the 67 JG is wrong for base engine PG cars without AIR.
