    more of the same!

My brother and I had just rebuilt the L88 (12:1 compression) in the 69 about 1985 or 86 and some punko in a late '60's Dodge was acting up to impress the girl sitting next to him! Needless to say, with the headers and 4.10 rear, we went sideways in first and second gear and finally hooked up in third gear. By then we were quite a bit ahead of him! (I think the 7000 RPM shifts may have been a little intimidating for him).

Ah the good old days - two lanes of blacktop each way with a median strip, in the middle of NOWHERE, with no traffic or cross streets!

      Re: 67 Coupe pictured

      Dennis,
Those are American Racing (AR) Torq Thrust II wheels, 15 x 6", with AR Carlisle spinners. The original powder-coated gray centers have been painted with black caliper, heat-resistant paint.

BTW - My earlier message was not accurate: I have not been beat-up here regularly. In fact a number of people have complimented my car and my choice of minor mods on occasion. My apologies to members. Twas a bad day for me for a number of reasons yesterday....

        Re: more of the same!

        I didn't have an L88 or 427, just a 327, but knew 7000 RPM shifts.
Didn't lose many of those races back then, solid lifter 327, fuel injection, close ratio 4-speed, 4.56 gear, headers and loved to race.

Went to the old airport for Sunday drags, tuned up with Friday and Saturday night races in Mohawk Park.

          Re: more of the same!

That's what really sucks....it's stories like those and the ones I've heard from my Dad and other 'Vette enthusiasts that got me into this hobby in the first place...Every 'Vette owner has a story, and the old ones of good old stoplight drags are my favorite. Thing is, nowadays one good run through the gears into triple digit speeds can lose me my CDL license if I get caught. Motorola will whip even the baddest ZL1 or Z06. And, it's not like we have dragstrips growing in our backyards, either....where we can run these cars and do it safely and legally. But I take my hat off to the 2 guys, one in a red '67 BB who took on another guy in a '57 fuelie on Scott Road, just off of Harter Road, on the way back to the courthouse during the 1st Pheasant Run Bloomington Gold Roadtour. These guys weren't wussying around...they were going for broke. I didn't see who won, all I saw was tire smoke. Both cars ended up at that one sports bar in St. Charles...they had to have both been Top Flight cars. I love it.

It may be hard to see, but that's my 61 in the middle at Carlisle last year, with my "Hotel de Dome Tent" to the right. It was taken from the back of the grandstand. 425 miles in 6 hours with two stops for gas and restroom, going home it was a little longer because of rain. The only problem was a blown fuse cause of the CD player, radar detector and Sirius satelite reciever, but this year it will be the Escort Solo battery powered unit and a seperate feed for the entertainlent. I'll be there again this year f116. Jim
P.s. the Vette heads are just out of the picture to the right, stumbleing distince you might say

Re: How a four banger pinto roasted my 69

Every now and then (not often), that 350 would vapor lock on me and yup wouldn't you know it.

That little tomato orange tin can was waitin for me at the next light when I finally got it fired back up.

You'd have thought he won at the nationals by the way he was whooping it up

I'm afraid he got a reality check though when THAT light changed.

The biggest diffence though was that I got the $50.00 fine when I went screaming by Buford T. Justice setting in the car lot. The kid in the pinto just tooted and waved as he chugged on by. Guess I was a double loser that day

              That 350/350 would go!!!

Waking an entire campground up at 4:00 A.M. in the pouring rain is another one for my Vette memoirs. I can laugh about the screaming people now......
