    Lifter problem?

    Hello All,

I removed my intake manifold on my '70 Z28 to install the correct # 110 manifold and noticed one of my lifters looked different from the others. This lifter is the first one at the front # 2 cylinder. (See attached photo)

Does that ring (disk} just snap back into place, or do I need a new lifter?

And one other question from a gearhead newbee, how do I tell if these are mechanical or hydraulic lifters?

PS: Sorry this isn't a Corvette question.

    Best regards,
    Kurt N.

I would probably replace the lifter the retaining clip is amoung the missing they are most likley hydraulic lifters . even if you could get a clip or found the old one i do not think you could trust the lifter after being run like that steve

      Kurt,

If it is an original 70 Z28 motor it would have solid lifters.

          Wayne & Clem,

Motor was a new GM short block purchased back in the 80's when you still could buy one. I was told by the guy who installed the engine that the lifters were solid.

Clem, is there a clip or something to hold it in place, or does it just snap back into place.

          Thanks for the help.

it is a press fit into lifter,no snap ring

press it flat and then press it back into the lifter using a rod that will be a close fit to the inside diameter of the lifter bore. it should lock into the lifter.
