Get it Back?
Scott,
In some ways it sounds like the LT-1 a friend of mine had. The local engine shop (production-type) removed the forged pieces and put in cast crank, wrong heads, cast pistons, etc. after he specified a stock LT-1 rebuild of a stock LT-1 engine. At the shop's expense they went 60 miles to retrieve the correct original heads from another car, but it wasn't until years later that my friend discovered the incorrect internals. Of course, the shop is long out of business.
If the timeline involved is only two months, I would have your shop find the original block, no matter what it cost them or where it was, if at all humanly possible. After all, I would hope they have receipts of where their work is going. At least you could have your number restamped (!) into the block and it would make a good story. Else, have them get a "correct" one for you at their expense.
Good luck!
