    C4 Engine ID Codes and Build Sheet Dates

    I have a 1993 LT-1, 1G1YY33PXP5116026 and I am confused about the Engine stamp code compared to the build sheet date. The build sheet I received from the Corvette Museum has 4/19/93. However, the Engine ID Code - VO422ZVB relates to a 4/22 date.

    Did the ID Code stamp on the tab at the front of the block on the passenger side come after the vehicle assembly? 4/19/93 was a Monday, while 4/22 was a Thursday. Could it take that long for the car to move down the line? It was my understanding that the engine dates preceded the car assembly dates?

    Under the engine, on both sides of the block, is "327", with a "2" under the 2 in "327" on the drivers’ side. Any idea what these represent?

    Do you know when the NCRS will make my model year eligible for judging?

    Sky-----

    The sequence stamped on the block beginning with "V" is the ENGINE CODE. It was stamped on the block at the Flint Engine plant. In this case, it decodes as follows:

    V= Flint Engine
    0422= April 22
    ZVB= 1993 LT1 with manual transmission

    There's no way that a car built on April 19 could have had an engine built on April 22. I strongly suspect that the car was built later than April 19, but I don't know the reason for the discrepancy on the build sheet.

    The "327" that you have observed on the side of the block represents the last 3 digits of the block casting number. The full number was 10125327. This block casting was used for all 1992-97 LT1 engines as well as 1996 LT4.

      Sky,

      I also have a 1993 LT1 and believe NCRS has made the 1993 eligible for judging this year.

          Mystery solved! I spoke to the Corvette Museum. The date on the build sheet, 4/19/03, is the date the car is logged into the computer as ordered. The car comes off the line about 7-10 days later. It all makes sense now.
