    C3 PF-25 oil filter

Anyone know where I can get this filter? I have tried Zip, Paragon and Corvette Central and nobody has one.
    Thanks

They do show up on e-bay! usually about 20-25 bucks a pop!Did you try Joe Lucia? All kidding aside I think e-bay is your best bet, I bought one there a couple years ago for 18 shipped. Tom

Make sure you know the exact details of the one you are looking for as there are many variations is labels and the size of the flat on the bottom that need to be understood to get the "correct" unit for a particular year. Not all PF-25's are "correct for your year. Do you research before going shopping, use the e-bay email to the seller process to check the details, Even issues like the top edge being painted or not varied thru the years.

I bought 3 cases of regular blue ones on eBay last year relatively cheaply. If nothing else, I have plenty of stock for oil changes even though they are not "correct" for my 71 or 72.

Old originals sell on eBay for $25 to $400 depending on the style.

Paragon has a white filter for your 72 to use for judging remove the paint from the lip and it should get some points. I watch thease filters on E-bay and they sell for about $75.and up for a white filter and $250. and up if they are embossed on the bottom but you need the non embossed I think.

Patrick, I bought a bunch of those cheap ebay ones also. But they are not correct for our judging. I understand guys that these filters are still available in Canada!!! The ebay ones by the case have a small flat circle on the bottom-say about the size of a quarter. The real deal ones with have a flat spot about the size of a silver dollar without measuring. Twice as big roughly. The painted up repros are typically the later style.
The C4's up until 91 or so use the black GF-90 with a silver and black decal. Tom Stanton knows this for sure. John D.

                Re: C3 PF-25 oil filter

Jeff - I bought the white reproduction PF-25 filter for my 1970 from Corvette Central, never altered it in any way, and never lost any points at either a Chapter or Regional meet. As I recall, they were about $30 each, and were frequently out of stock for long periods.

When the repos are in stock, I'd suggest buying at least a couple due to their frequent unavailabilty. All the original filters I've seen on ebay are very expensive, in the $200 range.

                    John,
Yes they are available in Canada but this is a bilingual country. What would judges think of English/French labelling?

Paul, Wow. Someone at Corvette Carlisle was complaining to me because I was selling "NOS" blue PF25's for buks. Said they were still available over the border cheep. He didn't tell me about art work. But the PF 25 might still be good enough for repainting. If you could just tilt it a touch so we could see the round or flat painted area on the bottom of the can. If it's correct then the filter would be a good deal. Course I know a guy who has the correct decals for the C4's. So paint yours black, stick on a decal and in business. How much to do PF 25's cost in US dollars? Thanks, John

                        Re: C3 PF-25 oil filter

I had a friend check into them thru his local Chevy dealer last year, and at about $7 each I passed. The $2 each or so that I payed works fine for me, even if they're blue.

I'd love to know if they're less expensive elsewhere in Canada.

                          Re: C3 PF-25 oil filter

Anyone...have a photo of the correct PF-25 filter we're talking about here for C3's? Not sure I have the correct one which I would describe as; white filter, 15 - 1/2" indentations around the bottom edge, nickel sized flat spot on bottom, 4 sets of double blue lines that are not connected (2 - 3/8" breaks), writing includes; FULL FLOW, quarter size red circle with white AC letters inside, TYPE PF-25, other writing about efficiency and capacity on back, etc.

Lyle...the lip area you speak about removing the paint from, is this the 1/8" ridge area near the top of the flter by the gasket? The indentations around the bottom edge of the filter I mention above, is this an embossed filter?

                          Thanks,
                          Ray

                            Ray-----

The one you have sounds like the reproduction, white PF-25.

The "embossed" filter has raised lettering on the bottom of the filter. If we're talking about a 1974, it would definitely NOT have used this style filter. This style was used for 1969 to about 1971 or 1972.

I believe that 1974 was a "changeover" year with respect to oil filter labeling. Early 1974 may have used the white, "non-embossed" filter. However, I believe that later 1974, if not all of 1974, used the blue filters with paper label. Hard to say, for sure, since there are so few cars around with original oil filters.

Anyway, IF the car used a white filter, the bottom would have looked as seen below. It has 15 flutes and the center, raised area is 1-3/4" OD.

Here is what the side of either the embossed or non-embossed white filters looked like. There may have been minor variations in the labeling style. AC was making these things by the millions at that time.
