    Timothy----

    You will note 2 things regarding this baffle:

    1) The baffle is perforated in the "heat slot" area. This means the exhaust gases burned through over time. More important, it means that the carburetor throttle body was exposed to direct exhaust gas heat. You might want to check it for possible damage or warpage. Even without baffle perforation, the exhaust gas heat can damage throttle bodies and other carburetor parts. With perforation, the chances are much greater;

    2) Note the "peninsula" of carbon which extends from the middle of the "heat slot" towards the middle of the primary bores. It looks like exhaust gases might have found their way into the fuel/air charge at this point. That could have affected idle stability and other performance issues.

      This guy says he has over 30 years experience working on Holleys in all factors and all makes including Corvettes, that being said my common sense tells me to follow the advice of our members whose vast experiences of their own have led to some/many fixes and smoother operation of our classics and new alike. I have been quite amazed at times of the knowledge both in general and in depth displayed here that goes far beyond being a Corvette owner.

        Gary -

        New Holley baseplates (if you can find them) run $100+, and the heat from the "hot-slot" can crack or warp the baseplate permanently. This "hot-slot" design generated the biggest safety recall in GM history in 1970 due to engine fires on Q-Jet-equipped cars with the "hot-slot". You do NOT want hot exhaust gases impinging on the baseplate of your Holley, even with the baffle in place.
