        Re: Car polish

Liquid Glass is the ONLY product to ever touch my 3 Corvettes. It is the best product I've found for easy on/off application, durability (it seems to build a barrier to small stones chipping the paint) and shine.(It creates a deep, long lasting luster.) Hope this helps.

          Car polish - GURU REPORTS

In 2002, Guru Reports reported on 46 different car protection products. You can no longer get the edition as it has been sold out. The authors of the magazine took no money from the vendors of the products to keep their opinions non-biased.

Liquid Glass is a synthetic (no carnuaba). It rated a "C" (average). It came in 31 of 46. Most of the products came in with a "C" average.

Protection-wise, by the 6th week, there was none left on the test panel. This may have been due to the unexpected snow and ice storm. (A synthetic should have held up to these conditions.)

Product availability, ease of buffing, and initial shine and water beading were the product's assets.

The authors thought the product was very weak considering it is a syntheic. The test panel felt dirty and gritty and the paint looked dry and chalky.

These are not my words. I'm just quoting from the magazine.

Everyone is entitled to their option and use whatever product they want.

My product of choice is Zaino. It was rated #1 by Guru Reports and I have been using it since 2000 (long before the magazine published its article). They just confirmed what I already knew.

            Re: Car polish

I've been using it for at least 20 years and I love it. I have 2 daily drivers that are black and it's great. I've tried others (including the multi-step and expensive Zaino, over-rated) and always come back to LG.

                Jack,
I used Zaino a number of years ago and drifted through a number of products. Most are very good. But recently I went back to Zaino. For some unquantifible reason it is a notch better in my opinion. My paint is bc/cc and Z2 works very well; perhaps too well as some well-meaning souls have criticized my car for being too shiny?? I also like their leather/vinyl treatment for seats/interior.

Return on Investment -That's what sold me

That's great that you found a product that you liked. Some people continue to switch from product-to- product depending on which way the wind blows.

I researched LG way back before I got my 2001 coupe in August 2000. I used to be a carnuaba user but the durability is terrible.

The truth is that you have to spend more money up-front with the minimum Zaino products but those products will last longer than any other product (because you have to re-apply the other products more often).

Ultimately here are the reasons I chose Zaino over LG:

                  1. Return on Investment - I've actually performed the calculation. One application of Zaino (Z-2, ZFX, Z-6) cost less than $2.00 and will last 6 month on a daily driver and 1 year on a show car. Assuming you use the same amount of product of Zaino as LG with reduced durability, the resulting cost would be around $8.50. Durability is my primary concern. My phyosophy is, "if you can't protect it, you can't make it look good".

                  2. You can't layer LG like Zaino for a deeper, wetter finish. The reason is that there are abrasives in LG (Manufacturer of LG indicates that it will remove light surface scratches and swirl marks.) There are no abrasives in Zaino. So logically, if you don't need to remove scratches each time you apply your protection product of choice, why apply something a little more harsh to your paint when it doesn't need it?

                  3. Zaino has a complete line of products.

                  4. Ease of use is very subjective. I can wash my car and have a coat of Zaino on it in less than 1 hour. I don't consider mixing/multiple steps a hastle. There is no panacea (perfect world). You still have to perform effort no matter which product you use.

Some people I asked complained about the chalky residue with LG during removal but that didn't bother me.

                    Your car looks great!

Too shiney???? I suppose to someone expecting to see a 1967 with the look of the paint technology of the 1960's on car in the 2000's that's probably accurate.

I think Z-5pro on the darker colored cars accually look better. (More depth) It's personal preference.

                    Keep up the good work.

                      Get OUT!!!!...

Jack, you've actually crunched the numbers!!! ...You have to be an engineer or bean counter.

Actually, I have found that the assumption that you would use the same amount of Zaino compared to LG or Meguiar's yellow wax would be very generous. The first coat of Zaino on my 2006 convertible took maybe 1.5 onces, but after that, additional coats were taking about 3/4 of an once. I don't think you can put a coat of carnauba wax on a Corvette with 3/4 once of liquid yellow wax.

Also, the life expectancy of carnauba wax is about 3 months; Zaino and other polyeric sealants can be expected to last about six months. So you will be doing the task only half as often with Zaino. Not only is it cheaper, it's easier on the bones...but that's not important if you're young and energetic.

                        Re: Your car looks great!

Here is my car at an outdoor show a week ago. With a 327/300/Powerglide you can see why it is not NCRS ready with the BB hood. Not to mention the AR wheels and Pirellis. That was my choice. But the Wife and I did a three-hour drive today and that mild engine purrs. Not fast, but just purrs. And thumbs-up from ricers; I was surprised. They probably did not know what they were looking at. But that's fine. The car just turned 40.

I was somewhat insulted when I stopped for gas and an older lady asked me what kind of Porsche it was. But such is life....And in a 1967 Corvette it is very good. D***, I love this car.
