    BG 2007

I haven’t read much feedback, other than the C5,6 folk yuk-yuking about their CF, DV or CACA reserved parking areas. Nobody said I found a widget of any kind. Surprising? I don’t know. I found this photo on DV. There were 3 in their lot and there are more motorhomes in the distance, at least 20+. On the way to the MegaCenter we walked through the CF reserved parking area every 8:30 AM and 6 PM and their lot was big. But I never saw more than 10 cars in it and it was huge. I did not hear any complaints about the lack of parking. Nobody complained about anything but the lack of terlets. And a burn out area. Some recommended that there be music and more beer outlets. (Buds were $4, but I just looking)

It’s a nice place for a party. A golf resort with a pool, concierge, room service, tennis, ATM, Avis and more. The place is big but it never looked crowded. Except for 2005, I haven’t attended since 1993 when it was in Bloomington so I really have no basis for comparison.

I was surprised by the lack of locals attending like CRC, Caledonia and others but there was no shortage of polish, blinking key chains or other bling gizmo’s. These events have a carnival atmosphere, and are more regional gathering than national as in the past. I met some Europeans but also did not see many old regulars that are still looking down at the grass. When I said to Gary & Ken Nabers, see you in Carlisle; they replied we don’t go there anymore.

I was also surprised by the lack of any photos. So here is my take on this 35th annual event.

PS As you may know. 1957 was the honored model this year at BG. The link has 50+ pics from the BG Special Correction. It was worth seeing all these Air Box cars in one room. Probably more than ever have been together in 50 years. (Where was Chevycrafts Red, White and Blue one? It’s pretty too.) WARNING: these photos are branded. View at your own risk.

Re: BG 2007...shoulda done the Road Tour

Every year, we route the Road Tour down Main Street to Rt. 47. About 1 mile east of 47 there's a farm, where the Fox Valley Corvette Club parties at during the Road Tour. We have people slow down, stop, and give 'er hell. There's an inch of rubber for the 500 or so feet on the pavement in front of this farm. I got pics to prove it....and only ONE solid axle or unmodded midyear even made an attempt. But the C3,C4,5,6, and ZO6 folks tore it up. Say what you want about those cars, but at least those folks made an impressive showing. Believe me, we had the parts to fix just about ANY breakdown...what killed me were the folks that had no clue at all how to roast the tires, and here they are driving a car with 385+ horses. BTW, the white/silver cove '57 270 horse that led the parade was the ONE solid axle that lit them up....with a fresh body off just completed. And the Anderson Road Drags were at a minimum this year, but there were a couple.....I lost.

        Geoffrey,

I noticed your mention of your pleasant conversation with Dick Guldstrand.

I had the opportunity to talk with him at BG two years ago. I was able to tell him about a Bocar (1959?) I had seen the week before at a little car show in Glen Arbor, Michigan. The car seemed in great condition for an old race car. He smiled and said yes he remembered them well, and I could probably go to many more local shows before I'd see another one. I had seen the old racer heading North towards Leland later in the afternoon and two-lane Rt.22 seemed perfect for it. He smiled again and said how terrific it was that it was getting used appropriatly.

It was a few minutes I remember well.

        Regards,
        Alan

          Doc,

Did you make it to the Gold Year Parking for the 57's out on the grass? There were a number of nice 57's, including the one that lead the parade; then there was my old driver. Park City 2005.

I forgot to add, than you for all the pictures you post, now and before; even if they are defaced.

              Verle,

Sorry I missed that. Hopefully Carlisle will repeat the 1957 salute. I know where they hold it at Carlisle. But Pheasant Run Golf Resort has no real detailed map locating all the Corvette activities - or I missed that also. There was so much grass, I never saw what hole or green we were on. But it was well watered and manicured; however if Immigration & Naturalization were near near that may have been different. Very few of the Golf Resort staff could understand my questions and smiled nicely, however the BG staff were very helpful.

                    I am relieved

                    Denny,

I am so relieved you had fun at the party. I also had much joy; just not at Grand Ma’s house. Was Terry M there pouring the bleach? At a former old Holiday Inn before dinner he was a fixture in the rear lot, jug in hand. Rememer that? It was across from the McLean County Fair Grounds where once a really, really big event was staged.

PS I ran ito Tim Thorpe. He is a local fellow who nicely restored my 68 coupe twenty years ago, and he was gratified to know it was regularly exercised, and abused and even molested. This past Friday nite it even got caught in the rain.

                    PPS I’m still having fun.

PPPS This is the another indoor MegaCenter photo I took. Since there actually are two famous club members bearing the appelation Terry M, I have included this so there is no confusion. I'm sure this clubs members will know.

Denny, did ya see the video Fran shot out front of Harley's? I got my copies yesterday....gets monotonous watching nearly 600 cars try to do burnouts, but some of it is pretty funny....'specially the background chatter.
