Called my 3 local GM dealerships about buying their GM EOS engine oil additive. I am redy to start up my 350HP in my 65. I followed Duke's API instructions but now NO additive. Is there another aftermarket additive I could use? Thanks DG

Well, that's a bummer! Joe L. needs to comment on this.
If you used an assembly lube on the cam lobes and CI-4 or CJ-4 and don't have gorilla aftermarket springs, I would not be concerned.
Remember, GM used NO assembly lube, no EOS in new engines, and the mid sixtes MS oil was no where near as good as today's C-spec oils, and they didn't to a "cam breakin", and premature cam lobe wear on new cars in that era was almost unheard of.

Duke-----
EOS is discontinued. I'm quite sure there are similar aftermarket products that will work as well. Some are probably identical to EOS; GM never manufactured this product themselves. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Dick, I tell you everything that's any good is history any more. Tha'ts disgusting news. But my engine builder-Pudge said he didn't use the stuff anyhow. Used some after market crap. I will find out the name and let you fellows know. Pudge said the GM stuff was too expensive and he never used it. We used it in my engine though. I see you didn't mention any oil brand name. Re: Duke: GM EOS engine additive is discontinued.
I had a new 80 Corvete and the cam went out of it was it was only a few months old. I was sick that they had to turn the engine down for a cam on a new car. Two of the lubes were rounded off. I was told the cams were not made in the USA at the time. Made north of us. Soft alloy the mechanic said. No cam lube and crap oil probably did it. I cheated and put some STP in the engine as soon as I got the car home. Never had any trouble after that. John- Top

use racing oil which is loaded with zink
for the engine/cam break in. it is labled "not for highway use". F/M sells a product for cam break in also part# VLL2. if you use moly disulphide(moly kote) on the lobes and lifter bottoms you will have no trouble using stock speced cams and springs. just remember to change the oil filter afer the cam break in as moly kote will plug the oil filter after it cools- Top

Re: use racing oil which is loaded with zink
Smokey Clem, Use the truck oil as it's cheaper and then use the FM stuff along with it and you won't have a problem. Pudge used the moly kote on my Speed Pro 097 cam and we didn't have any problems. Why aren't you cooking out today??? I see you on all the boards. You and Cranky. Shape up, JD- Top

Re: use racing oil which is loaded with zink
i am from the old school you cook and eat inside and go to the bath room outside. i hope you change oil filter after the break in because if you did not all the oil bypassed the filter and you will still show oil pressure on the gauge BUT it will be unfiltered- Top

Re: use racing oil which is loaded with zink
Clarence, Duke taught me that an eon ago. Changed oil filter after 1/2 hr. Years ago at local Sunday flea I bought cases of cheep Pennzoil filters for buk each. Gots plenty of them left. I mean how many times do you have to change the oil going off and on a trailer. OK let's hear it. JD- Top
