    C2 Clutch Mechanism Binding

When depressing the clutch, the linkage "chatters" as though the crossbar is dry but it is greased well. I thought it may be the clutch diaphram fingers but I replaced the clutch & throwout. This happens slightly when cold and then when things get hot, it's acts up. I doubt it's the shaft under the dash because that does'nt get too hot. Could it be the ball socket bushing on the engine ball stud?

If you depress the clutch quickly, this is less noticable but in normal use it is very annoying.

    Any help please?

    Thanks,
    Brian

I would first disconnect the pushrod from the cross shaft and then operate the clutch pedal. At least you will eliminate pedal binding as the culprit.

It won't bind without a load on it.

Sounds to me like it is binding on the front bearing retainer. Look for worn fork, ball and/or bearing retainer or crud build-up on the retainer.

I don't know whether you're supposed to do it or not but I've always lightly greased the bearing retainer bearing surface.

I had one with your symptoms once. The bearing retainer was dry, worn and grooved. I worked it down with emery cloth, lubed it, put it back together and that was the last I heard of it.
