This week I was watching the intriging Red Rock movie (with Nicolas Cage, see link below). What is the connection between the Buick Riviera Boattail and the C2 Vette's?
There must be some design influences here... (I know Bill Mitchell had some involvement in this car as well)
Rob, the 'bobtail' was introducted in 1971 when Buick did a major redesign, moving away from the prior Riviera stlying that were based on the Skylark.
Reportedly, John Houlihan, who was on the design team responsible for the 1971 Riviera, recalled that a radical design for the new Riviera had been on the mind of GM’S styling chief Bill Mitchell for some time. Mitchell was also credited with the inspiration, which resulted in the original ’63-65 Riviera.
Sure looks like they copied some of the 63-67 coupes features to me. Bob
