I have a 1967 roadster with a very mutilated tank sticker, and wanted to identify the motor/trans combo which likely was originally delivered with the car. I understand that one certainty is to establish the two letter prefix of the assembly date stamping on the rear differential housing. Of the casting information, and the actual assembly date stamping, there doesn't seem to be any continuity. I have referred to both the NCRS data book, as well as the Nolan Adams "bible". I’m hoping that someone could help shed some light on this.
Here's the info, (and what I understand the translation to be)...
pls note…..the car was built in November 1966
a) Rear Axle Casting # 3871375 (correct for 1967 model year )
b) Rear Axle Casting Date .. H 26 6 ( August 26, 1966 )
c) Assembly Date stamping … LR W 349 E1
LR = (not apparently used in 1967.This code first appears in 1971 as a 3.36:1 unit.)
W = (built in Warren)
349 E1 = cannot identify the sequence
I need to first understand if I am correct in assuming that "LR" was not used in the 1967 model year. Secondly....What is the translation of 349 E1 ??
Many thanks, in advance to those that can help. Pls advise if there are any other identifying characteristics which will help determine the original motor/trans of the car.
