I saw it took pictures. It sure looked like it could have come with the car. The interior judges liked it, I heard, even though it didn't work. I took some pictures.

        Re: Marlborough

I don't post pictures. They will not be visible in the archives for long, and so it is useless to post them.

          Heulga!

That's Spanish for Strike! Gosh, I guess I'm not the only one who's on 'strike' when it comes to posting pictures on the DB for the same reason(s) Terry expressed.

Once you get used to having a picture to 'talk' to in your post, you tend to let the picture convey what you could of/should of said in text. Then, when the picture 'evaporates' from its temporary host server, NCRS is left with archived posts with little/no meaning.

I KNOW the reason we don't support picture posting is a web site cost issue (disk storage space impact) and the current method (put the picture on an independent server) does 'solve' the problem. But, in this day/age of widespread internet use, I think it's time the NCRS BoD (Board of Directors) rethinks club policy!

My thinking is we either need to fully embrace picture posting or STOP archiving posted threads. Perhaps a compromise solution is to limit the archive time period (say only go back one year) or sift through the archives and delete the threads that are basically 'chat' and retain only those with decent technical content that have a reasonable 'hit' level based on prior searches...

There's no question pictures are WORTH the effort, but we're riding two horses at once with the current policy!

            Re: Marlborough

As far as I know, photos posted on this board remain available for viewing as long as the person who posted them leaves them on their photo server. The link only goes dead when you take the photo off your server.

I have been using the free photo hosting service at photobucket.com, and every photo I ever posted to this board is still on that server. I believe they still come up if you view the associated posts in the archives. Since photobucket isn't bugging me or trying to charge me for the photos I have on their site, I intend to just leave them there as long as I can.

I understand that eventually these links will be lost and the archives will suffer, but for the time being I believe the availabilty of posted photos can be controlled by the person who posted them in the first place. So, if you feel strongly about keeping them available (as I do), you do have some control over the photos you post yourself.

Clearly, you have no control over photos posted by others, but perhaps all of us can try to keep our photos available after we post them.

I agree that the long term solution is to save the photos in the archives.
