I have been looking for an AFB 3461s for a June built car. According to the 4th edition JM the date should be expressed as a alpha-numeric code. I assme this is one letter for the month as suggested by the chart on page 73 of the JM. While I was at Carlisle all of the 3461S' and now two that are on ebay contain two letters and one number for the build date. What is correct and what do the two letters tell me preceeding the number? Thanks

Re: 63 Carb dates
Bill,Although you didn't ask your logic applies elsewhere on 63's.For example the 4657 fuel pumps that have a suffix after the number are SR's also. Good for say Kitch's 66 but no good for a 63. I have one here that is 4657FF. Later style SR. So the same logic that applies to the carb also applies to the fuel pump. JD- Top

Re: Example:
Thanks Verne, unless I did not read the JM correclty it does not mention revision letters. Question, should and origianl 63 Corvette whith its original carb not have a revision letter in its date? I guees what I am saying are all carbs that have the rvision letter in the date considered by NCRS to be a service replacement? What about the font? Thanks- Top

Re: Example:
Keith,
Here's another example (I've posted before) that explains the revisions concept. I don't know what rev (if any) your original carb might have been up to by the time of your car's build, but as I said, it doesn't matter, as long as the date is correct for your car. "If" the carb with the right date just happened to be a service carb rather than a production carb, I don't think it would be stamped any differently at all. The 2 carbs should appear identical.
I have no idea what the JM says or doesn't say about carb numbers.

Font
An original AFB for your car would have a font like this one. Note that this carb was manufacturered Dec. '61 (M1) with no rev.
