    Probably of little interest, but I found this on the same topic.
    I took note of #6. I wonder which colors got more or less coats? That might be helpful to know if one were trying to buff up original paint.

      In the early 60's, it probably depended on how much "hiding" each color provided. In '67, DuPont introduced the "Magic-Mirror" acrylics, which were formulated to "reflow" in the final oven (to reduce the need for polishing to bring up gloss), and three coats were specified.

        John,
        Perhaps you were referring to a reformulated version of "Magic-Mirror" in '67, because that logo was introduced in 1959 across all passenger plants.
        Based on the '62 note posted earlier, maybe it was the lighter colors which required more coats.

          Yup, you're correct - the name remained, but the formulation changed for the reflow technology.
