    book on MPG

I realize now that I should have not said anything about the miles mpg that I am getting with my 4 ton car, as some of you would believe. It is not a 4 ton car, close even with me in it and a tank of Heavy gas. The fact is and it is not just this board but most people driving today could care less about mpg. For me that is a different matter after gas went as high now than it has ever been. I hate paying that much for gas. I am not so sure if people are just that skeptical on this board or arrogant for the most I think the latter.
And more power to you if you can afford to be that way. I know that gas will only get higher, until they perfect the water engine.
All I am asking for you skeptics is to read a book some time. American drivers fight back by Bob Sikorsky.
I know that most of us, me included wont drive our corvettes like the suggestions in the book. But some times we could. For the most part we don’t drive our classic corvettes every day. But if we would as a community of NCRS members drive our work/every day car like the book suggest would see a significant rise in MPG. And Dennis, you don’t have to cut you car off a real long red light. I would not want you to get to hot with out your AC blowing on you.

So sometimes when your not wrenching on the old classic, read the book. If noting else for some of you guys I am sure it would be worth a good laugh at it.

    Re: book on MPG

most of the ideas that were put forward in that book have been dispelled as hype or myths:

"Drive with the windows closed whenever you can. Open windows, especially at high speeds, create more wind turbulence and have the effect of holding back the car. It takes extra gas to overcome wind drag; in fact, at highway speeds, open windows can lower mileage by as much as 10 percent."

The TV show "Mythbusters" killed that one dead quite a while ago.

Kelly, if you're really that concerned about saving the planet, babies, whales, puppies etc., please park both your land yatch and your Corvette and buy something that truly gets real world good mileage without having to go through contortions. I think you'll sleep better too.

      Kelly,

I don't believe anyone said you had a "4 ton" (8000 lbs.) caprice.

I am not that concerned with saving the planet hell I could care less if I just drank the last drop of fresh water in the USA. I am just trying to get the best out of what I have, to see if it can be done. Oh, I know I don’t have a 4 ton car even a 2 ton just making point about the weight that people perceive it to be.

don’t believe every thing you see on that show “Myth Busters” as fact.
