Re: 58 nos motors
Brad-----
If you start looking for an NOS engine that's correct (or, even one that's not 100% correct) for a 1958, you are likely going to be still looking after most of us on this board are "pushing up daisies". If you are looking for a complete rebuilt 283, you'll probably have better luck.
All other peripheral parts are available "over the counter" but not over ANY counter. They're just available over certain counters and those counters usually want "long green" moving one way over the counter while the parts are moving towards you over the counter. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 58 nos motors
Brad, I see by your NCRS number you are rather a new member learning the ropes. 2008 is the banner year for your car in NCRS. Meaning that's it's 50 years old. So it will be the featured cars at the regional and national events.
Brad the parts you are looking for are only available at the flea markets and it's highly unlucky they are there anymore as that kind of stuff has dried up eons ago. We don't restore our old Corvettes with NOS engines anyhow as chances are the engine would be a service replacment block made much later than 1958. So your best bet is to go with one of the top name engine rebuilders and suppliers such as Tom from Classics Engines, Randy from Engines Unlimited and a host of others. Look in Hemmings and the Driveline for others. Good luck, John- Top

Re: 58 nos motors
If you follow ebay engines come up all the time. You would usually find just the block and heads and have to get them rebuilt yourself. The parts that attach to the block can often be found on ebay also but not with the block. Carburator, Intake manifold, Exhaust Mainfold, Starter, fan, ect. There are also vendors that specialize in specific parts. If you check out the drive line you'll see ads for vendors that specialize in many of the items you need. The chances of finding NOS on all the items you need is slim or at the least very expensive. Many of the vendors do an excellent job of restoring some of these parts.- Top

Re: 58 nos motors
Maybe you haven't asked the right question. What are you trying to accomplish by finding an NOS motor? Perhaps you haven't used the right term. Maybe you're really looking for something else. Give us some more information on what you're trying to do, and you'll get more opinions. Some of them might even be helpful.- Top

Re: 58 nos motors
Thank you all for the input. I guess I should ask what is required for motor and components to pass judging if going that route or maybe just bringing the value of the car up and making it a wanted vehicle at selling time?
Thanks again for mind expansion. Brad. My car is a 327 turbo fire (on valve covers)- Top

Re: 58 nos motors
Do some research to determine what horsepower the car originally had and then look for the correct casting dates for the time frame that your car was built. Once you know the horsepower orginal to the car, it then gives you some direction to look for the parts you need.- Top

Re: 58 nos motors
Brad, Welcome aboard. Here's a tidbit for you "Approximate birthday J58S101925: December 14, 1957" from C1registry.com, so you need an engine cast up to 10 weeks prior to that 12/14/57 and assembled 10 days to 8 weeks prior to 12/14/57. I have '58 #9128. Ted- Top
