    Bill, If you still need info, I'm going to go check on my 58 tomorrow. We ended up having to repair a corner of mine due to it getting soft from oil saturation. Ted

        Ted, that would be great if you could confirm distance. Also, I think that when the shield is riveted only the "Top-Center" rivet goes through the removalable tunnel, floor tunnel and shield? All the other shield rivets only go through the removalable tunnel? Don't waste too much time on me as I know visiting your car is exciting at this stage. Will you have any money left for Christmas? The distances that John and Richard sent were the same when I checked mine so I got a lot more comfortable. A third opinion couldn't hurt!

            Bob, the best I can tell it looks like 4" from vertical console to the front of the shifter opening. It also has 2 rivets that go through the metal pan and through the tunnel behind the vertical console. By the way here's a picture of my chassis.
