    66 - Alternator Rebuilders

Can someone suggest a good alternator re-builder. I just got a quote (from a well known re-builder) for my original 66 L79 alternator. Cost to rebuild $155 plus shipping and a 10 week turn around. This seems a bit high, but since I have just started getting quotes on items that need rebuilt on my car, I don't really know the cost.

Eddie, if the well known builder is in Augusta, GA. then you reached the best guy for the job. The price is reasonable for his work and his warranty / guarantee.

        Get done for $100 and

Sometimes a lower price is not worth it in the long run. Get it done for $100 and not like what you get sooo then send it out to be done right for another $155.
If you are getting prices elsewhere near $100 then just go for the good job.
I assume you desire a unit for show.

If you get one redone for show, how long does that new look last? Assuming that one drives the car to the judging meet, and not trailers it. Also anyone know the process they use to restore the case to have a new look?

Kelly, I can't respond about the Alternator as mine is going out this winter.
But I did have my carb. done about 7 years ago for my 63. I drive the car about 1000 miles a year and the carb. still looks new.

The gentleman you had quote your alternator has a reason for a 10 week turn around. You will see it when you recieve it. You can always go to Autozone and get what you pay for to use on the street. I save my Ga. alternator for special events. Just my thoughts Dale

                        Eddie...

You probably already know this, but, If you just want a mechanical rebuild, you can install new brushes and bearings yourself.

Now that is a thought, use it only for special car shows. I was just thinking the same thought when I read your post.
