    Connectors

Need info on the type of connectors used on ballast resistor and coil;are they standard non insulated spade connectors? Is the bottom of the ballast resistor a flag connector? Are the 2 pink wires on the coil attached in one connector?car is '64;thanks

    Re: Connectors

This is what you need...Connectors are spade.
Both pink wires at coil are in one connector.

Just fyi, originals did not use heat shrink tubing over the crimp, I think the heat shrink in the picture is to cover an incorrect crimp configuration on the terminal. No sleeve is called for on the print.

Bill, on a 67, the connectors on the ballast resistor had heat shrink on them.

Below is a photo of my original underhood wiring harness (removed from car due to condition). The pink wire connector on the left connects to the ballast resistor. The 2 pink wire connector(no heat shrink) connects to the coil.

In my previous photo the wire coming from the ignition (bottom wire) is an original with the heat shrink. The top wire is from a reproduction harness that replaced my original shown in this photo.

Partially correct, '67 was the first year to use a cover over the crimp, but it was not heat-shrink, it was rubber tubing, 3/4 inch long, 9/64 OD that was streched over the terminal crimp area. The tubing thickness is about twice as thick as heatshrink, easy for a judge to pick up if looking. Years previous to '67 leave the crimp area uncovered.

Steve, My 35k 67 coupe has the shrink wrap as per your 2nd photo. It would be interesting to hear from others on this. Jerry F. etc. Maybe not just 67 but all C-2's. Dale

                Re: Connectors

I guess I used the term shrink wrap loosely.... It probably is a rubber tube. It definitely is NOT the shrink tubing that has a smooth surface. However the tubing used on my reproduction harness is not smooth either so it probably is rubber tubing. I've had this car top flighted at 3 regionals over the past 2 years and not one judge commented on this wiring. I did get gigged for the backup lite wiring justifiably so telling me they looked at this area.

Wiring prints show '67 is first your for the sleeve, 63-66 did not use it.

                      Re: Connector Wire Insulation Colors

Garth --- in addition to connector comments by others as pertains to your '64 (no sleeve on ballast resistor; single sidewise spade [as Steve's pic shows] that attaches the two wires to the +ve coil terminal), your 1964 should have black with pink stripe wires at these 2 locations (engine harness and main under-dash harness).

Don't believe they went to solid pink until sometime in 1965 (certainly not early '65). Also, your backup switch wiring (both from switch and from main under-dash harness should also be black with a pink and black with a green stripe.
