    Re: Here's J65 front (thicknesses)

Both Joe and I predate the 63 specs.

    At least our cars do.

What's the width? Kinda looks like 62 RPO 686 shoes, but can't tell wihout knowing the width. Those were serviced by GM for many years afterward--61 and earlier were riveted rather than bonded.

I believe it was a 62 chassis w/ a 59 body sitting on it. I was in a Corvette graveyard and there was so much to see I coudn't absorb it all. The shoes measure 2" wide.

I found two front 57/58 RPO 684 drums in execellant condition.

Is there a Delco reference book for identifying these brake parts by Delco part #'s. Seems like I saw one on ebay recently.

Joe -- I really shouldn't venture back into my limited knowledge of C1 stuff, but your mention of 2" wide shoes (are they the fronts ?) tends to suggest 1962 option RPO 686 (metallic brakes $37.70) on that chassis; of course if not Bubba'ed over the decades.

If so, I notice that even in the 1965 P&A30 catalog, that '60-62 Corvette FRONTS (exc.H.D. Brake/Susp.) calls out GM # 3794194, which are the same 2" shoes as the REARS on '63-64 J65.

On the set of "194s" that I have, the Delco(?) number stamped on the backing of both primary and secondary shoes is 5461965.

Wayne..thanks for checking. These are probably of 62 vintage or service. What I need to do is find a comprehensive Delco Morraine parts book.
