Help removing Paint/Dye from dash pad

Has anyone removed old paint/dye from dash pads or have any tips. My 65 dash was painted at some point in it's life and is now flaking off so I need to get all of this stuff off so I can re-dye them.

Really don't want to buy new pads as these are not cracked anywhere.

My dark blue dash pads had been painted black. I used 3M Adhesive Remover to remove the black paint from the pads. It will take multiple passes as this solvent does not appear to be too aggressive. After that I cleaned them well with lacquer thinner, sprayed a vinyl primer and then re-dyed them blue. The dye adhered well and they still look good three years later with no lifting.

I use Dot 3 brake fluid. It works well and will not damage the vinyl unless you get too aggressive scrubbing it. Best to let it sit and then carefully scratch at it with something like a soft scrub brush.

Extremely hot water also will work depending on how well it is stuck on. Yours sounds like someone did a poor job. That is good for you because it is easier to remove.

Someone recently told me they used water soluable paint remover?? I have not tried that. I would be careful no matter what method you use. Terry
