Remember that after 1963 the AFB was not used on SHP engines, so I expect it was recalibrated to be more specifically tuned to the 300 HP engine.
In 1963 the manual trans 300 HP engine used the exact same part number AFB as the 340 HP engine, so the tuning was probably a compromise. The AFB for the '63 300HP/PG combination was different, but IIRC the calibration is identical, and the only difference might be the throttle lever to accomodate the PG kickdown link.
