I believe that the "this side up" on the bimetallic plate on the Schwitzer clutch refers only to the plate itself; if you install the plate the other way, it'll curve in the wrong direction when heated and won't operate the internal valve.
John, I agree. The only difference is that on the car it turns when the engine is running. So I would think that while in storage it should be rotated to circulate the fluid.
John -- got thinking of the same thing after I'd posted. In the attached pic, you can see the bow outwards at the middle. Also note faint etch of letters 'CJ' on top edge. And always nice to know it's patented in CANADA.
But still think that because of that little piston under the strip, to be safe, I'd store face-up.
