    Re: Alien O-rings??

    Brandon -

R134a requires special O-rings, greenish-blue in color, to properly seal the joints; R134a molecules are much smaller than R-12, and require a much better "barrier" material than the conventional black rubber O-rings used with R-12. They also recommend you replace refrigerant hoses for the same reason - the hoses for R124a are made of different materials with a "barrier" layer.

      R-12 to 134a Conversion . . .PS

I also forgot to mention the oil. The main reason I had to flush the system when going back to r-12 from 134 was I used pag oil with the 134 and is not compatible with r-12. This time I used ester oil (compatible with both) so I can always go back to 134 without flushing.

The previous post is correct about o-ring color. Black is for r-12 and colored (I have both green & blue) are for 134. Don H.

          Hot air from eco-nutz...

probably lifts it. I used to call myself a conservationist, until these nuts corrupted the term. DuPont was about to lose the patent rights, then anyone could have produced it for pennies/pound. They had the rights to R134, so they funded eco-groups to pressure the government to force the nation to convert. The ecos' bought it hook, line, and sinker, and now we have an expensive mess.

Dupont didnt have to buy the environmental groops, they already own the government officials. They have been making powder and munitions for the government since the revolution. Wonder how they get all those government contracts? They are so close that, what Dupont wants Dupont gets.
