I WAS THINKING OF GETTING AN ANTIQUE PLATE FOR MY 72. I DRIVE IT ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. WHAT ARE THE RULE OF BOTH THESE PLATES? WHICH WOULD BE BETTER TO GET? THANKS ERIC

Re: ANTIQUE & CLASSIC PLATES/PROS AND CONS
It is my understanding that in Colorado, you must pay for 5 year's registration in advance for an antique/collectible tag. Which is no biggie since the fees on old cars are so low.
Also, I don't tend to think of my C1 as an "antique". I'm more likely to opt for a personalized tag if I could find a neat one that's not already taken.

Re: ANTIQUE & CLASSIC PLATES/PROS AND CONS
Why do you want an antique plate? With regular plates, PA is not imposing any restrictions on your use of the car. With antique plates, at the least, there will be restrictions. Most people get antique plates to qualify for antique (cheaper) insurance. You already have this insurance.
Usually antique plates require that the car must be over 25 years old; not used for regular transportation; and, (Here's the biggie.) only used for parades, club functions, functions of public interest, etc.. Your insurance policy may have some or all of these restrictions.
Why not go to the PA RMV Web site, and look up what antique plates mean in PA?- Top

Re: ANTIQUE & CLASSIC PLATES/PROS AND CONS
The reason why i wanted an antique plate is no hassel of anual inspections and you don't have to register it every year. I do all the maintance and work on it my self so there are no problems mechanically. the dmv says you can drive classic/antique cars 1 day a week daily transportation and to cruises and parades. On the registration frorm it says something about not driving at night with antique plates. Does that mean you have to leave a cruise early before it is dark out?- Top

Re: ANTIQUE & CLASSIC PLATES/PROS AND CONS
As of last summer we now have three choices in Ontario for licensing a 'classic' car: personalized (vanity) plates (cost more up front than normal plates, but renewal is the same and there are no use restrictions); 'historic vehicle' plates (cost less to renew than normal plates, but have some use restrictions) and most recently, year of manufacture plates. The latter means that if you can find year of manufacture plates (a pair) in good condition, you may send them to the Ministry of Transport with a nominal fee (presumably to assess their condition and issue a permit for them) after which they are returned and you may use them as with any normal plate: no restrictions.- Top
