    I had this problem years ago with my '65. I solved it by removing the plastic base plate from the socket, and replacing it with those parts from a generic replacement socket purchased at an auto parts store. The replacement item needed a little t******* to fit the older socket exactly, but the new spring and clean, new contacts made the bulbs work as intended. A 'cheap' fix.
