I am restoring a "58 that is a very early production 2nd or 3rd week of October 1957 that has the generator mounted on the Left side of the engine like a '57. All the information that I have found on 1958's show the generator on the right side. The wiring harness appears to be original and never replaced with the voltage regulator mounted on the left also. Could this be correct for a very early production '58 as this was the 398th corvette built for 1958.
The reason for my question is two fold obvisly for the corectness of this vehicle and secondly and most important to me which is the correct exhaust manifold castings for this '58 would it be the '57 manifolds casting #3733978 Left, and #3733976 Right, since the generator bracket mounting is on the left or the one's I find in every book I've read for 1958 casting #3749965 Left and #3750556 Right. Please respond if anyone knows what would be correct or have run into this left hand generator mounting on a '58 before.
Thanks,
Jim
