Hi, I have a Holley Carb, in an original GM Parts box. The GM part number on the carb air horn matches the number on the box. The GM part number is 3955205. The Holley number is 4296. From what I have learned, this carb was for a 1969 427 L-88 Corvette. There is another number below the previous two, it is 0506. I was wondering if this could be a date code and if you could tell me what it meant. The carb appears to be NOS. The box is somewhat weathered, but the carb has never been installed and is in new condition. I bought it to use on a big block Mopar, however if it is truly a desirable piece, I will preserve it.

Re: C3 Holley date code
4296 is a L-88 carb. it should have fuel distribution tabs on 2 of the 4 booster nozzles because of the L-88 manifold cut out divider to increase top end HP. these tabs must be removed if you use it on any other type manifold. i have one on the shelf we used on our BB race car- Top

Re: C3 Holley date code
0506 is a date code. 4 digit codes were used in the 1970's. 3 digit codes were used in the 1960's. The first three digits, 050, indicate it was built on the
50th day of the year ending in a 6. Hence 1976. As John pointed out the 50th day was Feb. 19, 1976. The three digit codes break down in a different method. Another story, another day.- Top
