    C2 '66 BB radiator question

    Gentlemen: Am looking for advice on a replacement rad for my '66 BB, no powers. My current one leaks slightly and I want to fix that for good.

    Was the original one AL or CU core? Perhaps I should take a look at DeWitt's??

      All '66 BB cars used a brass radiator (3008567 on MT and 3008566 on AT). These can be disassembled and rebuilt quite nicely by a competent local radiator shop in your area. DeWitts isn't making a full reproduction of these radiators to my knowledge, just the inlet/outlet 'tank' sections for local rad shops to use in rebuilding badly damaged Harrison originals. I'm sure Tom DeWitt will step in and correct me if I'm wrong on this....

          I believe DeWitt's has cores available

          Jack, I may be mistaken, but DeWiit's has correct cores, not end tanks, for the 66-67 (and 68-69?) big block copper radiators. One would hopefully have the original end tanks to recore. The reason I know is it took me 6 months and $700 to find a radiator restorer to redo mine and then DeWitt's came out with their correct cores for a reasonable $249 shortly afterwards.

          Of course, now Tom will correct me.

                  C2 rad dexcool?

                  Read that referenced thread, Duke. Good info. But what is Dexcool? An antifreeze of some sort? And what is the underlining problem with a garden variety antifreeze, such as Prestone? Salts distilling out?

                  I'm concerned because I just installed a new DeWitt's in my '67 SB last summer and filled it with 50/50 antifreeze and distilled H2O. If there is something prudent I should do now early-on, I'd very much like to be aware of it.

                      At one time Dewitt's had a limited number of NOS side tanks and could make up a complete, correct, brass/copper big block radiator. I have a beautiful example in my garage.
