    63 front spring install ?

Assemble manual states to install the smaller end of the spring up wards ? Is there a specific way the stock (L.I. corvette) spring is suppose to be installed. Each end of the spring looks the same to me. thanks

Bob, there are the same on both ends for 63 front springs.

      Robert -

That notation didn't appear in the Assembly Manual until 1964, when the front springs changed from fixed-rate/evenly wound to variable-rate/progressively wound. With 1963 springs (or their identical replacements), it doesn't matter which end goes up, as both ends of the spring are the same. The #3851100 variable-rate spring introduced in 1964 was markedly different at each end.

I notice on the springs that I bought from L.I C. that one end does appear to be different then the other end. one end has the coil closer together that the other. Hope these are correct for a 63 ?

Photo below shows the #3851100 variable-rate/progressively-wound '64-up spring on the right, and a conventional fixed-rate spring on the left; note the difference in coil spacing from one end to the other on the variable-rate spring.

So John, which is the top and bottom the variable rated spring?

The end with the closely-spaced coils is the top, and goes in the frame pocket, as shown in the Assembly Manual.
