Assemble manual states to install the smaller end of the spring up wards ? Is there a specific way the stock (L.I. corvette) spring is suppose to be installed. Each end of the spring looks the same to me. thanks

Re: 63 front spring install ?
That notation didn't appear in the Assembly Manual until 1964, when the front springs changed from fixed-rate/evenly wound to variable-rate/progressively wound. With 1963 springs (or their identical replacements), it doesn't matter which end goes up, as both ends of the spring are the same. The #3851100 variable-rate spring introduced in 1964 was markedly different at each end.- Top

Re: 63 front spring install ?
Photo below shows the #3851100 variable-rate/progressively-wound '64-up spring on the right, and a conventional fixed-rate spring on the left; note the difference in coil spacing from one end to the other on the variable-rate spring.
