C2 seat tracks and headlamp motors

Is there a non-distructive way of taking a seat track apart? I want to glass bead the parts without getting glass bead in the balls or rollers that slide between the pieces.

I know I have seen an article about rebuilding headlamp motors in an old Restorer. Does anyone remember when that article was published?

I have had seat tracks apart. It was fairly easy but I don't recall the details. If I remember right you need to open the seat lock/ adjustment lever farther than normal to disengage it.

I'll give that a try. What about the other seat track without the seat lock lever?

They both have seat lock levers.(to slide the seat back and forth)

When I stumble across a "how to" article pertaining to a '64 or C2 Vette I save it to a file for future reference. I have two such files relating to C2 headlights, one on motor repair the other on "bucket" repair. Not sure if either of these is the one you have in mind - hope it helps.

Thanks Ed, the motor rebuild article is very helpful.

Thanks Neil --- That video covered the seat track disassambly nicely for a 65 seat. But, I just learned something unexpected from this video. The seat tracks for a 67 are entirely different from 65 seat tracks. They are not even similar. Maybe Russ's suggestion also applies only to the earlier C2 seat tracks and not 67.

Pat, I was referring to 66. Didn't realize 67 was different.

Russ-- I'm not sure what a 66 uses but a 67 is way different from a 65. 67 seat tracks resemble heavy duty drawer slides with rollers or balls between the stationary and moving beams, each having rectangular cross sections. .

1967 seat tracks are unique. I rebuilt a few. IIRC, here's how.

At each track end there's a dimple. Take a drift and a BFH and flatten the dimple(s). I don't remember if there are 2 or not. I think 2.

If needed, replace the rollers or other worn parts.

When done, use your drift and BFH to re-create the dimples.

Thanks Rich -- That's what I needed to know. Destructive but reversible in theory.
